A gallery wall looks casual and is not. What separates one that settles into a room from one
that looks like a mistake is planning done on the floor, before anything touches the wall.
Start with the wall, not the frames
Measure the usable width and height. Leave the outer edges of the group inside the wall by at least
15 cm on each side, and keep it clear of switches, curtain rails and door swings. Write the two numbers down;
they are the box everything has to fit inside.
Lay it out on the floor
Put the largest piece down first, slightly off centre, then build outward with the medium sizes and fill
with the small ones. Keep the gap between frames constant — 5 to 7 cm reads as deliberate; a gap that drifts
reads as an accident. Step back and photograph the arrangement from above before you move anything.
Paper templates save the wall
Cut a paper rectangle for each frame, mark where the hook sits on each one, and tape them to the wall with
masking tape. Live with it for a day. Adjust the paper, not the plaster. When it looks right, drill through the
mark on the paper, then tear the paper away.
Mixing sizes and finishes
One thing should stay constant — usually the finish, sometimes the mat colour. Mixed finishes can work when
the frames are otherwise identical in width, but a wall of different mouldings, different mats and different
sizes has nothing holding it together. Wood grain and tone vary slightly between frames of the same finish,
which is normal and, on a gallery wall, invisible.
Order once, not twice
Count the pieces from your floor layout before ordering, because a set bought in two batches may not match.
Delivery is free on orders of ₹999 and above and a flat ₹59 below that, so one order is
usually the cheaper as well as the safer route.
